Feery's Leap
Kimenta
Kimenta was a trade hub that became the heart of a thriving kingdom a thousand years ago. Trade and conquest spread along the lowland coast of the Valley region, spilling into neighboring regions. For four hundred years, they consolidated gods and imprinted their culture on the neighboring communities, before jealous neighboring gods and city-states (and pressure from the local fey courts) sapped their empire-building attempts. At the height of the Third Dynasty (400 years after founding), Kimenta enjoyed moderate degree of sophistication ( TL7 among the elite). Subsequent troubles, both internal and external, reduced the empire to a patchy confederation of warlords, feudal estates, and uncontrolled lands.
Since the pantheon was formalized during the Second Dynasty, Kimenta has remained the heart of the Durju pantheon, which has largely continued to function in the region. The gods keep their peoples together in spirit, though they have given up on uniting them under a single government.
After the Third Dynasty, an invasion of Tarshakans broke the Durju military frontier, and claimed valuable territory in the north. The central government collapsed, and chaos ensued. There have been various federations, confederations, and isolated city-states since then, but no single government has successfully extended its influence across the entire Durju sphere.
Kimenta retains its primacy in the minds of the Durju peoples, though they are loyal to the kingdom, not the king. Noble and adventurous Durju make pilgrimages to the Holy Hills of the Durju, to sacrifice at the high temples and present offerings (and make wishes) at the Great Fountain. Some seek the council of the god-king of the Durju, and leaders of the major Durju towns know rites to consult the god-king on important matters.
