Feery's Leap
Planar Metropolises
Below is a sampling of major cities beyond the Material Plane.
Shadow
There are very few settlements in the harrowing realm of Shadow. Few Shadow natives feel the need to huddle together for protection within a city’s walls, and most dead souls are quickly escorted to their gods’ realms. The great cities of Shadow are populated almost exclusively by long-dead souls that turned their backs on their gods’ kingdoms to seek their own fortune in the afterlife.
- Qarafa, City of Chains: A knotty, giant-bone-like escarpment undulates across the rocky wastes of the Shadow, and a city has huddled in its nooks and crannies for millennia. Its population has ebbed and flowed over time, but it predates the time of the Dragon Kings.
- Chicomemictlán, City of Thorns: The City of Thorns rises from a ravenous jungle, built upon and within a massive pyramid. Believed to be a remnant of the Tlanitlan Empire, it is dominated by dark fey and devils chased from the hells.
Elemental Planes
The elemental planes are places of concentrated energy, often dangerous and difficult places for non-natives. Most elemental conurbations are unfit for visitors, but the largest have districts where the normally prevalent conditions are suppressed.
- Ochahalaia, City of Laughter (air): The enclave of a noble djinn family, the City of Laughter is among the most accessible of planar cities, though they deal mostly in intangibles: information, stories, and songs.
- Sstrikiyesh, City of Brass (fire): The decadent City of Brass is a monument to efreet hubris. The markets seethe with flesh for sale, and other goods as well. Visitors are rarely sold into slavery.
- Ghulaublival, City of Nets (water): The tangled City of Nets is abuzz with merfolk, aquatic elves, and other aquatic travelers, though land-dwellers are rare.
- T’krka’al, City of Jewels (earth): The vaulted caverns of the City of Jewels glitter and dazzle, though azers, dao, and jann are the most common visitors. It is a fine place to buy or sell fine stone, gems, and metals.
Outer Planes
The heavens, hells, and other divine realms typically resemble palaces and keeps, not cities. The great cities of the outer planes tend to be unmoored from a god’s power.
- Allegory, City of Puzzles: Nestled in the upper gears of Mechanus, the City of Puzzles is a hub of planar commerce, though material plane visitors are scarce.
- Sigil, City of Doors: The jumbled, crowded City of Doors is famously difficult to intentionally enter or leave, but a resourceful visitor can glean goods and secrets from all over the planes.
- Tu’narath, City of Arms: The capitol citadel of the githyanki, the City of Arms is an imposing fortress built on the many-armed corpse of an ancient god. Visitors are welcome, but watched carefully.
- Vertigo, the Falling City: The largest city in the mysterious plane of entropy, the Falling City is a hub of information, particularly the manufacture and trade of memories.
