Feery's Leap

Session 47: Flushing out the Necromancer

The party waited impatiently for Nattuk’s animal messenger to reach Feery’s Leap, during which time they helped the Sisters of Plenty as best they could, and honed their plans. Finally, Edane dreamt of Sefu, who said, “We will be ready.”

Nattuk took most of the necromantic goods they’d collected [Session 44] and a map showing a route from Feery’s Leap to Kimenta. Then she caught the attention of some of the vampire guards, dropped the “necromancy evidence,” and fled. Within the hour, most of the Dread Lord’s forces ran or galloped into the night. They were followed by a flying object that dislodged from the keep, presumably housing Dread Lord Moldrech himself. It was dull black, roughly cylindrical, estimated thirty feet across and fifteen feet high.

Sender flew over the keep, and returned to confirm that most of the combatants had left. Then he helped Edane and Aranethon scale the wall and take a tower while Shegger and Drumarch assaulted the front gate. They made quick work of the skeletons, ghouls, ghasts, and wights that remained on the grounds. Meanwhile, the lights inside the keep all went out…

Rather than attack the front gate of the keep proper, the party searched the smithy, where they found a secret passage leading into the foundations of the keep. There they found coffins guarded by monstrous centipedes, which vanished when slain. The party then destroyed the coffins before heading upstairs.

Floor by floor, they fought ghouls, wights, skeletons, and vampires. All of these wore (the remains of) local armor and heraldry. When they reached the keep’s barracks, they found a nest of vampires, led by a vampire bard (Durju, but not in Kimentan garb). It was a harrowing fight, but they ultimately destroyed the vampires because the undead could not retreat to the safety of their coffins.
